ESG-Environmental Criteria. Their development. Step 2: Planning.

The ESG-Environmental criteria had been established based on international agreements, in general, are: environmental protection, climate change, sustainable operations & products, quality standards, efficiency in the use of resources, and environmental education.
After establishing the company’s environmental policies, based on ESG criteria, we proceed to establish the procedures that allow compliance with these policies. In the case of environmental criteria, there is a different complexity to the other criteria (social and governance), for two main reasons: the generality of the criterion and its specificity.

Environmental Criteria: Generality.

About the generality or globality of environmental criteria, it should be noted that these criteria must be applied to all activities of the organization, from the simplest to the most complex, since all activities carried out by man are likely to have an impact on the environment. Based on this fact, new procedures must be established that include the environmental criterion for the development of all the activities of the organization. The way recommended by Consultora Caribe is the training of all members of the organization in the identification of the impacts generated by their activities, so that they are the executors of the activities, that is, those who develop it day by day, who contribute ideas of solutions to the impacts generated and / or there is a better application of the new procedures established with the new criteria.

Environmental Criteria: Specificity.

Regarding specificity, the complexity is given because each activity must be evaluated from the point of view of the 5 criteria: environmental protection, climate change, sustainable operations & products, quality standards, and efficiency in the use of resources. If we talk about low-risk activities, so far, these can be evaluated by personnel who have general knowledge of the activity and general knowledge in environmental education. However, activities that present greater environmental risks, must be evaluated by expert personnel in the activity developed and expert personnel in the environmental area (general and specific), since each activity will require the participation of different experts according to the characteristics of the impact generated and its possible solutions, that is, each activity will have a different development with respect to each of the environmental criteria according to its incidence in the same.
It should be noted that with the challenge of zero emissions established internationally, the global trend is that each of the activities does not generate impact, so all activities must be evaluated, sooner or later, by only expert personnel in the activity, expert personnel in the environment and experts in the specific areas in which the impact is generated.
