ISO-14000 Environmental Management System. Organization Assessment. The ISO-14000 standards base a series of tools and systems for the administration of numerous environmental obligations in an organization, and the performance of product evaluations, without prescribing what goals an organization must achieve. These are process-oriented rather than performance-oriented standards, and cover: environmental stewardship, environmental audits, product life cycle assessment, environmental classification, environmental performance, etc.
The compendium of ISO-14000 standards can be grouped into two areas: one oriented to the evaluation of the organization and another oriented to the evaluation of the product. Among the evaluation of the organization are those that are oriented to: environmental management system, environmental audit, and the evaluation of environmental performance. On the other hand, there are those of product evaluation that cover: environmental aspects in product standards, environmental classification, and life cycle evaluation.

ISO-14000 Environmental Management System.

In this group are the standards: ISO-14001 Environmental management system, which contains the specific requirements necessary for an organization to opt for certification or self-declaration; the ISO-14004 Environmental Management System. General guides on principles, systems, and support techniques, which presents a guide for the implementation of the standard; and ISO-14006 Environmental management systems. Guidelines for Embedding Ecodesign, this document provides guidelines to help organizations establish, document, implement, maintain, and continuously improve their ecodesign management as part of an environmental management system (EMS).

ISO-14000: Environmental audit.

For environmental audits there are: ISO-14010 General principles, this standard establishes the general principles that are applicable to all types of environmental audits. Any activity defined as an environmental audit, according to this standard, must comply with the recommendations established in it; ISO-14011 Audit procedures for environmental management systems, this standard establishes procedures for planning and conducting an audit of an environmental management system in order to determine compliance with the audit criteria of environmental management systems; and ISO-14012 Classification criteria for environmental auditors of environmental management systems, this standard is a guide on the criteria for the qualification of environmental auditors and chief auditors and applies to both internal and external auditors.

ISO14000: Environmental performance evaluation.

When considering environmental performance assessment, the standards include: ISO-14031 Guide for environmental performance assessment, this international standard provides guidance on the design and use of environmental performance assessment (EPA) within an organization. This is applicable to all organizations regardless of their type, size, location, and complexity; and ISO-14032 Environmental management – Examples of environmental performance evaluation, this standard generates a guide of specific indicators for the industrial sector and generates a guide with which environmental aspects can be included in the products made by the organization.
