ISO-14000 Product Evaluation. Environmental Management System

ISO-14000 Product Evaluation. Environmental Management System. The ISO-14000 standards establish a series of tools and systems for the management of numerous environmental obligations in an organization, and the performance of product evaluations, without prescribing what goals an organization should achieve. These are process-oriented rather than performance-oriented standards, and include: environmental stewardship, environmental audits, product life cycle assessment, environmental classification, environmental performance, etc.
The compendium of ISO-14000 standards can be grouped into two areas: one oriented to the evaluation of the organization and another oriented to the evaluation of the product. Among those of product evaluation are: environmental aspects in product standards, environmental classification, life cycle assessment, and environmental footprints.

ISO-14060 Family: Environmental Aspects in Product Standards.

In this group are the standards: ISO-14060 Guidelines for environmental aspects for product standards, this seeks to draw attention to the fact that certain provisions of product standards can have positive and negative effects on the environment; ISO-14062 Environmental Management, Integration of environmental aspects in product design and development, which serves to analyse the needs of the environment throughout the product life cycle; ISO-14063 Environmental Management, Environmental Communication, Guidelines and Examples, this International Standard provides guidance to an organization on general principles, policy, strategy and activities relating to both internal and external environmental communication.

ISO-14020 Family: Environmental Classification.

For the environmental classification of products are:
* ISO-14020 Environmental labels and declarations, basic principles, this international standard establishes the guidelines for the development and use of environmental labels and declarations;
* ISO-14021 Environmental labels and declarations, self-declaration of attributions of qualities – Terms and definitions, collects the requirements for self-declared environmental claims (symbols, graphs, statements, etc. and details a general assessment and verification method for self-declared environmental claims;
*ISO-14022 Environmental labels and declarations, self-declaration of attributions of environmental qualities, Environmental labelling symbols;
* ISO-14023 Environmental labels and declarations, self-declaration of attributions of environmental qualities, Testing and verification methodologies;
* ISO-14024 Environmental labels and declarations, Type I environmental labelling – Guiding principles and procedures;
* ISO-14025 Environmental labels and declarations. Type III environmental statements, principles and procedures.

ISO-14040 Family: Life Cycle Assessment.

When considering product life cycle assessment, standards are included:
* ISO-14040 Environmental management, Life cycle assessment, principles and frameworks;
* ISO-14041 Environmental management, Life cycle analysis, definition of objective, scope and inventory analysis, the standard is intended to support the implementation of an environmental management plan in any public or private sector enterprise;
* ISO-14042 Environmental management, Life Cycle Assessment, Life Cycle Assessment, describes and provides guidance on the overall structure of the environmental impact analysis phase;
* ISO-14043 Environmental management, life cycle assessment, life cycle interpretation, which provides recommendations for interpreting product life cycle assessment studies;
* ISO-14044 Environmental management, Life cycle assessment, requirements and guidelines, where it establishes the requirements for identification and evaluation of environmental impacts during all stages of the life cycle: extraction, production, distribution, use and waste;
* ISO-14046 Environmental management, Water footprint, principles, requirements and guidelines, it offers a methodological option to assess the potential impact of products, services or organizations on water in a comprehensive manner;
* ISO/TR-14047 Environmental management, Life cycle impact assessment, Application examples of ISO-14042, this provides examples illustrating common practices in carrying out life cycle impact assessment according to the above-mentioned standard;
* ISO/TS-14048 Environmental management, Life Cycle Assessment, Data Documentation Format, is a technical specification that frames the different steps to follow to perform the documentation of the data necessary to carry out the life cycle analysis;
* ISO/TR-14049 Environmental management, Life cycle assessment, Examples of the application of ISO 14041 to the definition of objective and scope and inventory analysis.

ISO-14060 Family Environmental Footprints.

Considering environmental footprints, the following standards are available.
* ISO-14064-1:2006 Greenhouse gases. Part 1: Specification with guidance, at the organizational level, for the quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and removals;
* ISO 14064-2:2006 Greenhouse gases. Part 2: Specification with guidance, at project level, for quantifying, monitoring and reporting emission reductions or increases in greenhouse gas removals;
* ISO 14064-3:2006 Greenhouse gases. Part 3: Specification with guidance for validation and verification of greenhouse gas claims;
* ISO-14065:2013 Greenhouse gases. Requirements for bodies performing validation and verification of greenhouse gases, for use in accreditation or other forms of recognition.
